TUTORS

Jilly Baines (MA, B Ed hons, ACE science) is a current and eperienced KS1/2 teacher who combines an enthusiasm for working with children with a lifelong love of nature.  Jilly is a tree warden locally and has run childrens' environmental groups working alongside the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, and the South Norfolk Countryside Rangers.

Alan Barson started teaching horticulture at the Norfolk College of Agriculture and Horticulture and left to form his own company to provide practical horticultural classes for the Adult Education Service.  He is a lead tutor for the WI, gives talks to local horticultural societies and undertakes garden design schemes for private clients.

Rory Hart trained as a commercial horticulturalist in Kent and Sussex, and developed an interest in decorative horticulture. He spent just over a year at RHS Wisley working in various departments, but became most interested in woodlands. He left Wisley to work for the National Trust at Petworth Park where he continued to develop an enthusiasm for natural history and woodland management. At Easton College he taught horticulture and conservation, but left in 1999 to set up his own business concentrating on habitat management and creation for farmland, domestic and woodland work.

Ian Stanton is well known in East Anglia as a keen plantsman. During a long association with the Burlingham Horticultural Centre he taught a wide range of courses, and he has a National Diploma in Nursery Practice from Merrist Wood College, and a Master of Horticulture (RHS) Award from Writtle College. He spent some time with the Beth Chatto Nursery where he had responsibility for Plant Propagation, Sales and Garden Management. Ian has lived and worked in Norfolk for over 10 years and is now following a freelance career concentrating on lecturing, garden advice consultation, horticultural journalism and garden design and specialist pruning. A garden designed by Ian for the Tyndall Centre of the University of East Anglia was awarded a Silver Medal at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show in 2008.
