This module requires students to develop a capability in a range of practical horticultural skills including:
It is recommended that students intending to study this Module should alredy have good horticultural experience or have completed the RHS (Level 2) Certificate in Horticulture. This Module provides the practical element of gardening knowledge that many students find missing from the Level 2 Certificate, however it is not recommended that the Module is attempted by anyone who has only a very basic knowledge of the principles of horticulture.
Practical Information
Students of both courses will have the use of the gardens at Sea Mere for practical work and to provide examples of plants and conditions being studied. The courses are open to everyone and the Study Centre is accessible for those with physical disabilities.
The course tutors, who are all experienced in teaching the subject, will be: Alan Barson, Rory Hart and Ian Stanton.
The next Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture course will start in September 2010 with a view to finishing with the optional exam in February 2012. Their is no requirement to sit the exam if you study at Sea Mere, so it is quite possible for those who merely wish to learn more without the stress of a test, to study and enjoy the friendship of fellow students. On the other hand if you would like to test your knowledge, the exam can be sat here in February 2012. There will be 20 x 6-hour days (always Thursdays) at Sea Mere to cover the syllabus, plus one revision day. The cost of the full course will be £550 payable two weeks before the start.
Please register your interest if you are considering studying at Sea Mere. Everyone who registers will be invited to an open evening in August 2010 to see firsthand what we have to offer, meet one of the tutors and learn more about the syllabus. After that evening, if you decide to study at Sea Mere, a calendar will be agreed to fit round students' other commitments - holdays etc. To give you an idea of a possible timetable, click RHSCalendar to download the current timetable for 2009/11.
The Level 3 Module C, Practical Horticulture can be studied provided sufficient students register their interest, perhaps students who have completed the Level 2 course and wish to continue studies as a group. There is no Level 3 course planned for 2009, however if sufficient students wish to study the course it would be covered in 6 x 6-hour days at Sea Mere - always Thursdays and cost £250.
